Welcome to Jay Katari Business Blog
People ask me all the time how I got my start in the recycling business. I did my undergraduate at Florida State University with a major in Business Administration. I started South Florida Textile Recycling, Inc. in 1998. As South Florida population was exploding at the end of the 1990s, I recognized the need for more convenient and more user friendly places to recycle used clothing, shoes and house hold items. I placed my first 24 clothing collection bins in Palm Beach and Broward counties and the response was overwhelming. Our bins began filling up immediately and I knew I had a winner. Over the past 12 years I began 10 more clothing collection businesses in 12 states. Collectively, my recycling companies recycle more than 25 million pounds of second hand clothing and shoes every year. We employ more than 50 people in all of there cycling operations. In 2008, I opened my first 45,000 square foot retail store called Mega Thrift in Winston Salem, NC. I have opened 8 more stores in Texas and Florida and North Carolina totaling almost 200,000 square feet of retail space with plans to open 3 more stores each year to saturate the markets we are presently in. Our stores employ more than 250 people. We provide a very convenient, friendly and easy shopping Experience, where our customers can buy top quality brand name clothing at afraction of the regular retail price. I have developed a program to create jobs, help the environment and provide a service to the community by making recycling easier than ever.
